OPERATION DRAGNET
A Multijurisdictional Arrest Warrant Roundup
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC [October 17, 2012] – Starting at 6:00 AM this morning
131 law enforcement officers representing 24 agencies spread out across
Spartanburg County to track
down and arrest individuals who had
outstanding warrants for their arrest. At noon today Sheriff Wright addressed
the media to provide them with an update on this operation. As of noon today
just over 150 arrest warrants on 90 suspects had been served. The arrested
individuals were transported to the Fairforest Baptist Church where they went
through the intake process and awaited transport to the Spartanburg County
Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
In preparation for this operation law enforcement officers researched between
4000 – 5000 outstanding arrest warrants issued on individuals by authorities in
jurisdictions from across the State of South Carolina. During the course of the
investigation of these arrest warrants it was discovered that 200 suspects were
either already in jail within the state or were deceased. Upon completion of
the research there were 700 – 800 active arrest warrants that are trying to be
served during Operation Dragnet. Some of these arrest warrants are 6 to 7 years
old. The operation will continue in force until later today. Authorities feel
that individuals will continue to be located or turn themselves in to law
enforcement in the days ahead as a result of today’s operation.
