The Special Victims Unit began an investigation on January 16, 2019, at 550 Hannon Rd., Inman, SC, 29349, in regards to the welfare of a 92 year old male. The caller, who wished to remain anonymous, informed deputies that the victim wasn’t being properly care for and provided information that deputies were able to verify once they were on the scene. The deputies had to enlist the aid of a local fire department to gain access to victim’s home, since the victim’s son and daughter in-law would lock victim inside the residence when they left. The deputies placed the victim into emergency protective custody, had EMS transport him to a local hospital for an evaluation, and also notified the Adult Protective Service Unit of the Department of Social Services. Our investigator attempted to interview the victim’s son and daughter in-law, but they retained an attorney and declined all interview requests. Our investigator presented the findings of her investigation to a magistrate yesterday who approved warrants for Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult, and victim’s son and daughter-law were arrested this morning. The suspects are Melvin L. Jeffords, Jr., W/M, and Linda J. Jeffords, W/F, same address as incident location, and both will appear before a magistrate at 5:00 PM today for arraignment. The victim is now medically stable and remains in DSS custody.
