On November 26, 2021 at approx. 1:30 PM, deputies responded with the North Spartanburg Fire Department to 233 Ranier Dr., Inman, SC, 29349, in regards to a possible overdose. Upon arrival, they founded a deceased female and an unresponsive male. EMS was able to revive the male and transported him to the hospital, and the Coroner's Office also responded to the scene. Examination of the evidence at the scene suggested the female's death wasn't a natural one, and that the incident appeared to be a murder and attempted suicide. Once the male was medically stable at the hospital, he confessed to our violent crimes investigators that he suffocated his wife by placing a plastic bag over her head and then attempted to take his own life by overdosing. The male remained in the hospital until yesterday at approx. 4:40 PM, when he was discharged and arrested for his wife's murder. The suspect is Carl Frederick Berry, Jr., W/M, 67 years old, address same as incident location. Berry appeared before a magistrate earlier today for arraignment, but his bond was denied. A motive for this incident is still under investigation.
