10/16/2015 - Deputies make arrest in Armed Robbery Case

Last night at approx. 11:30 PM, the Quick Way Food Mart at 1228 Boiling Springs Rd., Spartanburg, SC, 29303, was the victim of an Armed Robbery when 2 masked suspects entered the store armed with handguns and demanded money and cigarettes. 2 of our traffic units were near the location when the call went out, and one spotted a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the incident location. When he tried to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop for his blue light, and short pursuit went from the county into the city limits of Spartanburg until the vehicle stopped, and both occupants ran from it on foot. A perimeter was set up, K9 units were deployed, and both suspects were located and transported to the office. A mask, gun, and money were located inside the vehicle. Once at the office, the Jones suspect confessed to his involvement in the incident. The suspects are as follows:

Cornelius Kentrail Jones, B/M, 217 Collins Ave, Spartanburg, SC, 29306

Lonnie Ervin Rice, B/M, 1509 Canaan Pointe Dr., Spartanburg, SC, 29306

Both are charged with Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. Jones will also be charged with Failure to Stop for a Blue Light. The Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank the Spartanburg Police Department for their invaluable assistance with bringing this incident to a quick resolution.
