This morning Sheriff Chuck Wright spoke with the media about this year’s Operation Rolling Thunder. The annual traffic enforcement operation that began in 2007 concluded this year’s operation at midnight last night. The operation kicked off on Monday morning, September 30, 2013 and ran around the clock until Thursday evening. Sheriff Wright thanked the 86 officers who represented the 21 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that participated in this year’s Operation Rolling Thunder. There were 1297 traffic cases and 103 criminal case made that resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals. Just over 43 lbs. of marijuana was seized along with $98,796.00 in currency (see attached statistics sheet for more information).
Sheriff Wright was pleased with the effort put forth by the officers participating in the operation this week and was grateful that there were no injuries to citizens or officers. While the amount of drugs seized was less than in some previous years Sheriff Wright believes that this is evidence that the message is getting through to the criminal element; “Don’t transport drugs into or through Spartanburg County!”
