On March 30, 2022 the Inman Police Department responded to an attempted armed robbery at the Truist Bank, 11157 Asheville Hwy Inman SC, in their jurisdiction at approximately 4:45 pm. According to the bank teller the suspect passed a note asking for money. The teller did not give the suspect money so he fled the scene in a blue Dodge Dakota. The subject left there and went to the Briar Patch gas station at 280 Goodjoin Rd, Campobello SC. The subject pumped $56.84 worth of gas in his blue Dodge Dakota and did not pay for it. The subject then drove to the Redi Mart at 3298 Hwy 357, Lyman SC. The subject parked his blue Dodge Dakota at the gas pumps and walked into the store. The subject walked up to the counter and presented a note to the clerk stating “give me the money, be quite, don’t get hurt”. The clerk told the subject that she was not alone and he stated that he didn’t care. The clerk reached for the panic alarm and the subject took off running to his truck and left the property.
During the course of the investigation the subject was identified as Samuel Olen McClain DOB:8/7/1956. McClain has an extensive criminal history that dates back to 1979. McClain has done 2- 20 year sentences in prison for Armed Robberies and accessory to a Homicide. McClain was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Armed Robbery and a Petit Larceny (Enhanced).
