This morning deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting in progress at Virginia College located on Warren H. Abernathy Blvd. Within minutes deputies arrived on the scene and found out that a shooting had not taken place at the college. Investigators identified and detained a 54 year old female employee of the college. Further investigation revealed that the employee had sent a text message to a family member telling them that she was hearing gunshots inside the college and that she was hiding for her own safety. When the family member got no response to follow up text messages sent to the employee that family member called 911 to report a possible shooting in progress at Virginia College. When questioned by Investigators the employee admitted it was an April Fool's prank.
The employee, Angela Timmons, has been arrested and will be charged with one count of Disturbing School.
