On January 4, 2015, Deputies responded to Spartanburg Medical Center in reference to a child who was rushed to the hospital that was unresponsive. Both the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office and violent crime investigators with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office have been looking into victim’s death since he was brought to the hospital on Sunday. Yesterday evening, investigators arrested the mother’s boyfriend and charged him with Homicide by Child Abuse. He is Rodney Obryant Samuels, B/M, 727 Hartnett Dr., Spartanburg, SC, 29301, which is also the incident location. The investigation revealed victim died as a result of blunt force trauma.
